Member Spotlight: Marley Arenstein

Welcome back to our Member Spotlight series! We’ll be featuring members of our chapter for the rest of the 2020-2021 school year to help us all stay connected while socially distancing.

This week’s Member Spotlight is Marley Arenstein!

Marley is a senior majoring in English Publishing Studies and minoring in Communication Mass Media and European Studies. She is from Ohio and says one of the main reasons she decided to study at Illinois State was because of the amazing publishing program. Some of her favorite activities include reading, watching Netflix, thrifting/antiquing, and traveling (when not in a global pandemic). She was inducted in Fall 2019 and is looking forward to bonding and working together with everyone in Sigma Tau Delta at Illinois State University!

Marley says one of her biggest achievements this year was studying abroad at the University of Leicester in Leicester, England. Even though she was only there two short months due to the pandemic, she says she was able to learn more about a different culture and broaden her educational and mental understandings of life outside of the United States. She also was able to make a few YouTube videos for ISU’s Study Abroad Office about her time abroad and what she learned while she was there. You can check out Marley’s videos with the following links:

Final Thoughts on Studying Abroad in Leicester – Marley in England #3

This year Marley also secured an internship at Illinois State University’s student newspaper—The Vidette—where she works as a copy editor. She was also reelected to ISU’s creative arts journal—Euphemism—as the submissions coordinator received an editors’ choice award for one of my art/media submissions to Euphemism this semester.

Congratulations, Marley!

Dead Poet’s Night is Back!

Mark your calendars for our virtual Dead Poet’s Night on Sunday, November 8 at 6 p.m. We’ll be hosting the event on Discord. Members can check their email for the link sent out by chapter co-president Marley Arenstein. Can’t find the link? Email our Social Media Director, Britni Williams, at bmwill2@ilstu.edu.

What is Dead Poet’s Night? It’s an annual tradition of the Lambda Delta chapter to celebrate the changing seasons with the reading of poetry by poets who have passed. (Don’t worry, Live Poets get their say in the Spring!) So, come to the event ready to share your favorite poem by your favorite dead poet! Guests of members are welcome, but they must also have a poem to share.

Submit your work to Polyglossia!

Want to see your name in print and beef up your résumé? The English Department is seeking undergraduate work in English Studies to publish in the 24th annual edition of Polyglossia.

Polyglossia celebrates the excellent work being done by our students—you. If you’ve written an essay for one of your classes that you’re especially proud of or that seemed to make an impression on one of your instructors, send it in to us to get it published.

Polyglossia is looking for papers, in hard copy, on any topic in the various areas of English Studies, be it a paper on literature, poetry, linguistics, rhetoric and composition, or technical communication (but not creative writing—send those papers to our excellent forum for creative writing, Euphemism).

You can find a digital version past editions of Polyglossia by following this link: https://sigmataudeltaisu.wordpress.com/polyglossia/past-issues/

Submit your work electronically (preferably as a Microsoft Word doc.) to Dr. Cory Hudson at cmhuds1@ilstu.edu by 2 November 2020. If you have any questions, please contact either Dr. Hudson or Dr. Robert McLaughlin, rmclaugh@ilstu.edu.
